family life
still living in Lüdinghausen and not about to move anywhere. the girls are 5 and 7 now (one in school, one in day care) and make me proud every day.
i'm still not much of a gardener or handiman, but my wife and i are currently improving the house and garden a bit by removing the old car port and replacing it with a proper shed for the bikes. this will likely happen at the beginning of may.
growing as a lead & mentor
I am still an engineering manager at zalando, currently leading two teams. i‘m still very much learning each day, though the feeling of perpetual overwhelmedness is gone. the current focus is to grow one team and stabilize its operational excellence. the other team is lead by a talented senior working on his promotion, i‘m happily coaching and mentoring him to get there.
getting fit
i recently lost 10kg and hope that it stays that way. My primary goal is to stay below 90kg throughout 2024. a secondary goal would be to get below 85kg and officially no longer count as overweight (with regards to the bmi).
my plan for 2024 is to run 1000km. i also wanted to run a half marathon, but i had to pause the former and cancel the latter due to a knee injury which is still not better. my fitness is pretty much down the drain now, as i can't even go biking.
eating healthy
i’ve recently cut out all sweets, most snacks and most alcohol of my diet. i’m still a vegan, though i consider starting to eat eggs again given that there seem to be some nutrients you can’t substitute. my wife is way more on top of this than i am, i just need to start to listen to her.
finding my public voice
i have recently moved my blog to flenker.bearblog.dev and i am quite happy with the outcome. it just looks very snazzy. i promised myself to post more quirky stuff there, but i nerd-sniped myself and am now redoing my rust tutorial. i am also more active on mastodon now and use all this as a way to find and improve my public voice.
